Should I choose a bulletproof vest or a stab proof vest?

No bulletproof vest is 100% stab proof, no matter which manufacturer they come from.

Elite-armors experience in the development of implants for our bulletproof vests is that a bulletproof vest in 95% of cases does the job in the police and security industry.

Our test trials show that it is extremely difficult to penetrate our vests with a knife.

What is a bulletproof vest made of?

Bulletproof vests are made of synthetic fibers, of which the oldest and best-known fiber is Kevlar. Today, there are several other fibers used to make bulletproof vests. Eg. Twaron, Gold Flex, Dyneema and Spectra.
The difference between the fibers are primarily the breaking strength which has an impact on how thin the bulletproof panels can be made, to insure the compliance of the NIJ standard.
The fibers have an impact on durability and flexibility. It matters in terms of how long you can use your vest and how pleasant it is to work with.

How does a bulletproof vest work?

Once the projectile from a handgun hits a bulletproof vest, the projectile is caught in a network of ultra-strong fibers. These fibers absorb and distribute the energy of the projectile. The projectile deforms and the next layer of fibers absorb the rest of the energy until the bullet is stopped

For how long does a bulletproof vest work?

National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center in the United States is of the opinion that it cannot be determined when a vest is no longer in compliance with the NIJ specification, and therefore should be removed from service, solely based on its age.
Maintenance and storage of the vest are typical factors that contribute to determine the lifespan of a bulletproof vest.
A 10-year-old bulletproof vest that never have been in use can be just as good as a new one.
If you choose to buy a used vest, please be aware that you have no way of insuring whether the vest has been stored away unused in a closet or if the vest has in fact been in use. However, if you choose to buy a new quality vest, you are insured a vest with at least a 5-year lifespan.

Elite-Armor provides a 5-year warranty on all implants.

Never leave your vest in direct sunlight or under ultraviolet light as the heat and UV light degrades the ballistic properties. The implants must never be washed in a washing machine, cleaned by using bleach or dry cleaning. Bleach and other chemicals breaks down the synthetic fibers! Instead, use a damp cloth to clean your bulletproof vest.

Protection levels: NIJ Standard-0.101.06 (Newest standard)

Level IIA: 9 mm FMJ RN 8g at 373 +/- 9,1 m/s | .40 S&W FMJ 11,7g at 352 m/s +/- 9,1 m/s | Level IIIA: .357 SIG FMJ FN 8,1g at 448 +/- 9,1 m/s | .44 Magnum SJHP 15,6g at 436 +/- 9,1 m/s

Some manufactures specify a number of ”Joule” as the unit for determining the “stab proof level” of the vests. Joule is a unit of measure from the world of physics, which indicates something about energy and work.
Elite-Armor sells by default only vests with NIJ level IIIA, as we believe that this level is the most suitable to work with as a doorman, guard, policeman etc. NOTE: We often get questions concerning our vests resistance to bullets fired from an AK47. NO vest can withstand projectiles from such caliber, without using special hard armor plates.
